Agaves, often known as century plants, are iconic, drought-tolerant succulents celebrated for their striking architectural rosettes and fleshy foliage. Ranging from dense, symmetrical geometric globes to fountain-like bursts of narrow, flexible leaves, this genus provides exceptional structural interest to arid landscapes and modern container gardens. The leaves are typically thick and waxy, occurring in hues of silvery-blue, grey-green, or deep emerald, and are often accented with sharp teeth, colorful glowing margins, or distinctive white filaments. After many years of slow growth, mature plants produce a spectacular, towering flower stalk. Because most Agaves are monocarpic, the main rosette gracefully dies back after this magnificent blooming event, often leaving behind new offsets or "pups" to continue the cycle.
