Citrosa, widely known in the horticultural trade as the Mosquito Plant or Citronella Geranium, is a heavily scented, tender perennial valued for its deeply lobed, lacy green foliage. A member of the Pelargonium genus, it features leaves that release a strong, refreshing citrus fragrance reminiscent of citronella when brushed or crushed, making it a popular choice for sensory gardens and outdoor living spaces. Growing in a bushy, upright mound that typically reaches 18 to 24 inches in height and width, this aromatic plant provides excellent textural contrast in mixed borders and containers. During the warmer months, it produces delicate, small, lavender-pink blooms with darker magenta markings, though it is primarily cultivated for its highly aromatic leaves. Citrosa thrives as an ornamental landscape plant in frost-free climates (Zones 9-11) and performs exceptionally well as a potted patio specimen in cooler regions.
