Cordyline is a bold, architectural genus of tropical and subtropical plants renowned for their upright growth and vibrant, sword-like foliage. Depending on the variety, their dramatic, strap-like leaves emerge in a stunning array of colors, including deep burgundy, bronze-chocolate, bright pink, cream, and vibrant green. Often called Ti Plants or Cabbage Palms, many Cordylines eventually develop a sturdy, cane-like trunk with dense foliage concentrated toward the top, while younger plants maintain a full, clumping appearance from the base. Their striking vertical form and richly colored leaves make them highly sought after for creating focal points in modern landscapes, tropical garden beds, and decorative patio containers. While they can produce panicles of small, fragrant white flowers when mature, Cordylines are cultivated primarily for their spectacular year-round foliage display. Most varieties thrive in bright, indirect light to full sun and require well-draining soil to flourish. They are fantastic outdoor specimens in frost-free climates (zones 9-11) and adapt beautifully as overwintering patio plants or striking indoor houseplants in cooler regions.
